The private BRABOEUF MANOR at The University of Law (Guildford) is the setting for a ‘Bloomsbury Group’
inspired LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST, set on the eve of the Second World War.
Transported from the play’s original setting of Navarre in Northern Spain, Guildford Shakespeare Company’s production is set in the summer of 1939 at a riverside location in the Sussex countryside. Here, Ferdinand, Berowne, Dumain, and Longaville, members of the Bloomsbury Group, have sought a quiet rural retreat, to immerse themselves in their books.
However, they are soon joined by three more effervescent female members of the Group,
including the Princess of France. With all scholarly devotion thrown into chaos,
even the local villagers become embroiled in the lovestruck couples’ antics.
Joining the Robin Hood cast are ELAINE CLAXTON (BBC Radio Drama Company, Home Front, National Theatre) to
play COSTARD, and NATASHA RICKMAN (Faction Theatre, Associate Artist Jermyn Street) who plays ROSALINE.
GSC’s Co-Founder MATT PINCHES also returns to play the Spanish count DON ADRIANO DE ARMADO.
