Do you, your fiends or family know someone who might benefit from finding out more about assisted performances to enrich their theatre experience? If so, Scene and Sound, in partnership with Royal Centre, Nottingham are holding an Open Day on 11th February at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham.

This is your chance to find out about assisted performances for Deaf, deafened, hard of hearing, Blind and partially sight audiences. But you will need to book a place with Stef: email info@sceneandsound.co.uk; text or ring Stef on 07806096424

The programme is as follows:

11.30 Meet in the Theatre Royal foyer

12.00 Introduction to Audio Description, Captioning and BSL interpreting.

12.15 Introduction to Scene and Sound

12.30 A change to experience a Touch Tour on the stage for Swallows and Amazons.

1.00 Any Questions?

2.30 Audio Described/BSL interpreted performance of Swallows and Amazons (tickets £9.50)

followed by an After show discussion – Q & A with the cast.

‘The Artist’ is screening at the Quad, Derby

‘The Artist’ (PG) is a silent film and has no dialogue. The film is screening at QUAD, Derby from 20th January until 2nd February and has already received fantastic reviews.

Hollywood 1927. George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) is a silent movie superstar. The advent of the talkies will sound the death knell for his career and see him fall into oblivion. For young extra, Peppy Miller (Berenice Bejo), it seems the sky’s the limit: major movie stardom awaits. This tells the story of their interlinked destinies.

‘War Horse’ with soft subtitles at the Quad

The Quad is pleased to confirm that they will be screening ‘WarHorse’ (12A) with soft subtitles on Monday 30th January at 5.45 p.m.

Based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, Steven Spielberg owes more than a little to the exceptional stage adaptation. War Horse is the story of the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him.

Set against the backdrop of World War l, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets.

Yesterdays saw an amazing, joyous Flash Mob dance in Derby Market Square to encourage people to support Deda Derby’s bid to retain Council Funding. You can catch a glimspe of the fun on YouTube - or read about it in the Derby Telegraph. Derby needs your support to keep not only Deda (the only Dance House in the East Midlands), but Quad, Derby Theatre and a variety of festivals alive. It is not just Council funds which at are risk – if the Council pulls the plug on funding these amazing venues and the work they do, the Arts Council may follow suit – they normally insist on some Council funds as matched funding.

The Future of Derby Theatre

Scene and Sound would like to welcome you to our brand new website which we hope you will enjoy. As you can see, we have a wide selection of member theatres, all of whom provide Assisted performances for at least some of their shows. At Scene and Sound, we would welcome constructive feedback – about the website, and about assisted performances.

We hope that people will sign up to the website and receive regular updates about the performances which most interest them. There are lots of advantages to becoming a premier members, with our first event planned for 22nd October.
