What would you like to experience at the theatre?

Scene and Sound are putting together a new bid for funding, part of which will be to train volunteers to meet and greet audience members. We aim to pilot this at DerbyLive and Nottingham Theatre Royal. We also want to offer a service to pick up (and take home) blind or deaf audience members who are reluctant to attend these theatres, particularly at night.

Would this service be of interest to you?

We need to ensure that the bid represents the wishes of our audiences. Is there anything else you think would encourage you to attend the theatre? We would love to hear your thoughts on this and any other issues which would make your theatre visit more enjoyable.

Free BSL/SSE Tour at Dulwich Picture Gallery

The next free BSL / SSE tour at Dulwich Picture Gallery will take place on 1st June at 2 p.m. The title of the tour is Sir John Soane’s Dulwich – Architecture Inside Out.

Yesterdays saw an amazing, joyous Flash Mob dance in Derby Market Square to encourage people to support Deda Derby’s bid to retain Council Funding. You can catch a glimspe of the fun on YouTube - or read about it in the Derby Telegraph. Derby needs your support to keep not only Deda (the only Dance House in the East Midlands), but Quad, Derby Theatre and a variety of festivals alive. It is not just Council funds which at are risk – if the Council pulls the plug on funding these amazing venues and the work they do, the Arts Council may follow suit – they normally insist on some Council funds as matched funding.

The Future of Derby Theatre

Nottingham Theatre Royal and DerbyLive have both offered a pair of free tickets for their Christmas shows – Cinderella at the Theatre Royal and The BFG at Derby Theatre – for our prize draw m(Access Performances). Anyone who has joined Scene and Sound by November 25th, as a Premier Member, will automatically be entered into the draw. So do join us – there are great benefits including cheaper tickets and free ice-creams!

Scene and Sound would like to welcome you to our brand new website which we hope you will enjoy. As you can see, we have a wide selection of member theatres, all of whom provide Assisted performances for at least some of their shows. At Scene and Sound, we would welcome constructive feedback – about the website, and about assisted performances.

We hope that people will sign up to the website and receive regular updates about the performances which most interest them. There are lots of advantages to becoming a premier members, with our first event planned for 22nd October.
